PLANNING YOUR GARDEN VISIT
We are so excited to invite new and familiar faces alike to experience the pure magic of peonies in bloom, and have over 200 unique cultivars to show off this summer! Please keep the following in mind as you plan your visit:
-
Prairie Peonies is beyond excited to welcome visitors to a beautiful 2024 bloom season by donation. Donations are never expected but always appreciated and help keep the garden operating, improve visitor experience, and make this larger-than-life undertaking sustainable!
-
Peonies are typically in bloom from early June to mid-July
-
For ease of access and to better accommodate more visitors, garden visits are now separated into sidewalk & driveway viewings and guided garden walkthroughs, and a visitation calendar can be accessed here. Please respect this distinction and do not step into the garden unless Nick is around during guided garden walkthrough sessions so that the garden remains undamaged and can continue to be enjoyed by all. Call Nick at 780 782 4270 or use the 'contact me' tool at the bottom of this page to book in for the full peony experience. Be sure to include your preferred day and time and I will do my best to accommodate your request!
-
Garden viewing is dependent on the weather. It is also important to note that the garden is on a west-facing city lot which does not provide mid-day shade.
-
The garden is located in a cul-de-sac with sidewalk parking available directly in front of the garden property. Please take care not to park in front of any neighbouring driveways or properties. Jasper Place Jubilee Park lies directly east of the garden and is a very short walk away with plenty of free parking space available along 93rd avenue.
-
Follow the progress of the garden on my social accounts or visit the 'In Bloom Today' page to ensure you don't miss out on your favourite varieties!
-
Visitors usually spend an average of 15 to 45 minutes enjoying the garden, depending on depth of interest, amount of photos snapped, and intent to ask questions (which are always welcome).
-
The best viewing times are from 1:00 PM, when the sun reaches the bulk of the garden, to 8:00 PM. The best times of day for photography are 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM when the sun is directly overhead, reducing sharp shadows, and 8:00 PM when the hazy golden hour light sets in.
-
Please leave your garden shears at home. These blooms are for all to enjoy!
-
Please kindly watch your step as the garden has many tight spaces and narrow passages.
-
As much as we love our own two pups, please be advised that pets (not even mine) are not permitted in the display garden.
-
Although I am up to date on vaccination and social distancing is easily achievable in this space, please let me know if you would be more comfortable if I wore a mask and I will happily do so.
-
Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to facilitate your visit or make it more enjoyable. Feedback, positive Google reviews, and donations are always welcomed and so appreciated!
